Shildon
Redworth Road suffers from congestion and pedestrian safety problems due to HGV's turning at the entrance to Dabble Duck Industrial Estate. These movements obstruct traffic in both directions and prevent the on-street parking of vehicles visiting commercial premises and vehicles over-flowing from neighbouring residential streets.
The residential parts of Dale Road and Redworth Road suffer from noise, air pollution and vibrations arising from HGVs wishing to access Dabble Duck and George Reynolds Industrial Estates from the Shildon by-pass. The introduction of weight restrictions, together with vehicle signage from the by-pass to the estates via the western end of Redworth Road, would alleviate this.
These issues were raised by the residents and businesses in the area during a public consultation on the New Shildon Area Regeneration Initiative. It is therefore intended to undertake:
- Junction improvement works to the Redworth Road/Dabble Duck Industrial Estate spine road, to accommodate left-turning HGV’s;
- Provision of lay-bys for off-street car parking on Redworth Road;
- Introduction of weight restrictions on the residential parts of Dale Road and Redworth Road;
- Provision of a traffic calming scheme for the main routes through the Jubilee Fields Estate, Jubilee Road, Jubilee Crescent and Coronation Avenue;
- Footpath improvements.
